When it comes to reliable and reasonably priced security cameras, it can be hard to go wrong with Hikvision. The company has a great selection of equipment to get you started, regardless of the complexity of your desired setup. Installation is also surprisingly simple, too, but you might still want to consider having a professional do it for you to avoid costly mistakes. Here, we will share how you can do a basic setup for a Hikvision security camera for your home or small business.
Avoiding network problems
As you set
up your Hikvision surveillance system, one of the most common problems you
might experience is related to the network setting. Hikvision’s IP cameras have
a default IP address, which is 192.168.0.64 or 192.168.254.1. The problem
occurs when your modem or router has a different network than what the IP
cameras are using. What you can do is to take note of the IP addresses and make
sure that the Hikvision security camera
is on the same Wi-Fi network.
Set up the NVR and IP camera on a home
network
Follow these steps:
- With
the power adapter, turn on the camera and attach it through the LAN cable
to your laptop or computer.
- Go
to the network connection, double click the local LAN Card, double click
Internet Protocol version 4 IP to enter the IP address with a network
mask.
- Remember
the default IP of the cameras and enter that along with the network mask,
255.255.255.0.
- Once
the Hikvision security camera
is on the same network, you can access it through your browser by entering
192.168.0.64.
- If
the camera is not yet activated, set a password or enter the default user
name (admin) and password (12345).
- Navigate
to Network where you will find the configuration and find the TCP/IP tab.
Check DHCP and save. A disconnection will occur.
- Power
the camera with the adapter and connect it with the Wi-Fi router. After
startup, they should have the same IP, so you can already access the
camera through your Wi-Fi network.
